Natural Causes
Some rivers carry large amounts of sediments. The soil and rocks carried by the rivers deposited in the lower courses. It makes the riverbeds shallower. River channels can hold less water. When there is heavy rain, flooding will occur. This is a major reason why flooding is so frequent in the Huang He.
The soil of Huangtu Gaoyuan is mainly illuvial soil, it cannot endure heavy rain. Whenever there is heavy rain in Huangtu Gaoyuan, soil erosion occur and produce many sendiments to the river nearby. As a result, Huangtu Gaoyuan brings many sendiments to the Huang He and increases the risk of flooding.
