JOBS IN THE COMMUNITY:
-Nurturers (night crew and day crew)
-Department of Justice- people who enforce the law
-Receiver of Memory- most important elder. What Jonas will become. He
makes big decisions for the community. He takes the old memories and has
the weight of them on his back. He takes the community’s pain.
-Elders- They make decisions that are semi-important, not important enough
to take to the Receiver. They select jobs for each 12.
-Laborers- Laborers do many hard and tedious jobs. They do odd jobs like
sweeping away the hair from the ceremony for 10s.
-Engineers - They are builders.
-Birthmothers - They give birth to three babies and then become laborers.
Have three lazy years, then hard work for rest of their lives. Very little
honor in being that.
-Speaker- The speaker sits in office all day
and makes announcements over microphone.
-Recreation Director – Expertise in games.
-Childcare Center- younger children after school area-baby sitting
-Food Distribution- They deliver food for all meals.
-The House of the Old workers - work with and take care of old people.
-Instructor – A teacher. One instructor teaches each year
-Collection Crew - picks up the food after meals.
-Pilots- The pilots bring food to the community.
-Sanitation Laborers- keep community clean and care for the sanitation of the community.
-Fish Hatchery Attendant - provides fish for the community.
-Group leaders for each age
