Agni is one of the most important gods of India. He is the god of fire, messenger between gods and man, and accepts sacrifices through fire. He is the fire in the sun, lightning in the sky, and the spark in the earth. He sends messages to other gods through smoke from the sacrifices. When a person dies, they burn the body so that Agni with his fiery powers will save their souls and they will live forever.
He is very loved by his followers because he doesn’t care if you are rich or poor. He visits the home of everyone. He is a friend of man for he gives us warmth, light and fire for cooking. However, he is feared by nature. When he gets angry he can burn trees with his fire and burns the grass with his chariot’s wheels while raging thru the forest.
He is the son of Agniras and the grandson of Sandila. His wife is Swaha. His sons are Payman, Suchi, and Parak and he has 46 grandsons.
