Mission Summary
This highly important mission ended successfully, but two major problems were encountered during orbit and landing.
1) A faulty switch in the heat shield circuit indicated the clamp holding the shield had been removed early, a signal later found to be incorrect.
2) A yaw control jet apparently clogged at the end of the first orbit, forcing Glenn to turn off the the automatic control system and turn on the manual- electrical fly-by-wire system.
