Origins
The discovery that TB is caused by a bacteria was credited to Dr
Robert Koch on March 24, 1882
The bacterium causing TB is scientifically known as the Mycobacterium
tuberculosis.
BCG is the most widely used vaccine to prevent TB. It is currently
given to infants as there is evidence that serious childhood TB disease
may be prevented.
Those people with low immunity will have higher risk of getting
infected.
TB is almost 100% curable. A person diagnosed to have TB will be
given a combination of several different types of pills to take and
some injections.
TB is the most common infection in the world. About 1/3 of the world's
population is infected and 2/3 of these are in the Asia-Pacific region.
