Storm Chasers
Storm Chasers are scientists that study tornadoes. Except scientists think that books aren't enough. They have special cars packed with things that will help them along their way, tracking down a tornado. Some common things they have in their cars are: a laptop, cameras, maps, and a tape recorder. The laptop helps them get warnings out. The cameras help them get pictures of a tornado in action. The tape recorder helps them remember everything. It's really hard to be a storm chaser.
Tornado Instruments
The first invention used to study tornadoes was called TOTO. It was huge. TOTO was named after the small dog in the Wizard of Oz. TOTO looked like a huge garbage can and weighed four hundred pounds. This was way too heavy for the men so scientists created turtles. Turtles are small packages that are filled with instruments to help scientist tell if a tornado is coming. All of these instruments make life a lot safer for us.
