Mt. Adams is one of the
largest volcanoes in the
Cascade Range.
It is located about 45 miles south of the highest mountain, Mt. Rainier. The
most recent eruption was about 1,000 years ago. A long time ago the Indians
called this peak
"Pa-toe" and then later it was
renamed Mount Adams, in the 1850's. Some volcanoes were renamed to honor
presidents of the United States. Mount Adams was named after John Adams.
