Prometheus

 Prometheus was the smartest Titan.  His name meant “forethought” and he was able to tell the future.  His father was Iapetus.  When Zeus went against Cronus, Prometheus left the other Titans and fought on Zeus’s side.

     Sometimes he and his brother Epimetheus were put together by Zeus to create man.  Prometheus is known as the protector of man.  He gave people gifts of many kinds including fire.  He also tricked Zeus into letting the people keep the best parts of the sacrifices. 

     Zeus punished him for this by having him chained to a rock and having an eagle tear at his liver.  He was left there forever or until agreed to surrender to Zeus.  He was eventually rescued by Hercules without surrendering.
