Iris

     Iris is the goddess of the rainbow.  Her symbols include kerykein and winged boots. Iris was the daughter of an Oceanid named Electra and the Titan Thaumas.  In Greek myth, Iris primarily acted as a messenger of the Olmpian gods and goddesses.  Iris often served as Hera’s personal messengerin many ancient sources.  

     Scholars have suggested that Iris, as the goddess of the rainbow, represented an example of a union of earth and sky.  The qualities of this natural phenomenon influenced Iris’s role in myth as the goddess who delivered messages from the heavens and earth.
