Aargh! Cancer-it scares everyone-but why? Cancer is common, and is your own body cells multiplying because of mitosis. Cancers are the result of cells that lack controls to stop the growth process , so they continue to multiply without restraint. The "Big C" (cancer) is unusual in young people, and by following a healthy lifestyle now, you can reduce the risk of some cancers. The older a person is, the higher the risk they will have of getting cancer. Cancer can also be described by the abnormal multiplication of the cells of the body that occurs due to loss of control of the body regulation to cellular mitosis. Cells continue to multiply indefinitely producing large masses of cancer cells. These cells spread invading neighboring tissues, enter the blood vessels, lymphatic, permeate, and embolize to distant sites. Occasionally, some cancers spread along body cavities like the pleural and peritoneal spaces. This is called metastasis.
