Centaurs

Centaurs have the body and legs of a horse, and the torso, arms, and head of a man. According to the ancient legends, centaurs are from the mountains of Greece. They were wild and quick to lose their temper, and fought many battles with the humans. Some pictures of centaurs can be found on 2nd century Egyptian sarcophaguses.

                        A Centaur Story

Chiron, a noble centaur,  had been taught healing and hunting by the gods Apollo and Artemis. He opened a school where he taught important people of his time. He was immortal, but a poisoned arrow threatened to give him unceasing pain, so he chose death. Zeus honored him by putting him in the sky as the constellation Sagittarius. Another constellation is called Centaurus, one of the southern hemisphere's brightest constellations. Two of its stars are two of  the ten  brightest in the sky. One is just 4.3 light years away! This may explain the legend that centaurs predict the future with astrology.
