HIV/AIDS in

Western Europe

19
520,000 – 680,000 adults and children are living with AIDS
30,000 – 40,000 adults and children newly infected with HIV
The adult prevalence rate is about 0.3 %
2,600 – 3,400 adult and child deaths

Overall, in these countries, the news is good because the mortality rates are dropping. Though, in the Netherlands, Greece and Germany, a cause of infection is unprotected homosexual activity between men, in the rest of Western Europe “heterosexual intercourse may now be the most common mode of transmission.” Furthermore, many of the programs that help to educate people in the facts about HIV and AIDS are still working.
