  • 12,000 - 18,000 adults and children are living with HIV/AIDS.
  • 700 - 1,000 people were infected with HIV in 2003
  • 0.1% is the adult population's HIV/AIDS prevalence rate.
  • <100 adult and child deaths due to AIDS were reported.

These results may sound promising, but this region has the smallest overall population. Moreover, there has been a resurgence of other Sexually Transmitted Diseases, pointing to a rise in the level of high-risk sexual behaviors. This is especially true among young people, and homosexual men. In fact, 86% people who recently acquired the virus were “gay”. However, a contributing factor being the decline in emphasis on HIV/AIDS awareness programs. Constant vigilance must be maintained if the virus is to be contained.
