IN THE BUTCHER SHOP!
According to NCBA Purchase Dynamics Research people by more beef than any other animal product. In big restaurant chains like McDonalds beef makes up 40% of sale. In restaurants beef makes up 38% of sales. People like beef much more than chicken! Even if mad cow disease scares people, people are eating more and more beef. Even if some people say that red meat has more fat and it's not healthy, people eat more beef. Most beef eaten outside home is hamburgers and cheeseburgers, more than 5 billion a year.
We visited a butcher shop in Split, Croatia. The butcher shop is next to the big farmer's market. In the butcher shop you can find a lot of beef product and also veal. Veal comes from the calves. Beef comes from the adult cow. People ask a butcher for a cut and he cuts it right in front of them. Cows and calves hang on big hooks. The butcher told us that his meat comes from the local farms. Everyone in Europe is very scared about the mad cow disease and so it important to know where the meat comes from. Many people shop only in butcher shops where they know that the meat comes from local farms. Local farms do not use the feed that has animal parts in it. There has not been mad cow disease in Croatia, but there has been in countries that surround it. People are scared but they are still buying meat although they are much more careful now. In addition to buying meat only from butchers they now, they also stay away from parts that can spread the disease.
