Herds of cows and bulls are called cattle. They are herbivorous animals, which means they eat only plants. They are important to people because they give us milk, meat, leather and many other products. The cattle is placed in genus Bos and family Bovidae. There are two species of modern cattle. The first one is B. taurus. Most of beef and dairy cattle belongs to these species. Other one is B. indicus. This species started in India and has a hump. We can find some of this cattle in Americas, Africa, and Asia but in smaller numbers than the other species. All cattle are even-toed, hoofed animals. They belong to the order Ruminatia. All members of this order have four stomachs. They also have less teeth than other animals. They also have two horns. Horns of cattle do not branch and they are hollow. Other member of Bovidae are bison, buffalo and yak.
