OUR PROJECT
We liked this category. We came to idea when we heard about Mad Cow Disease in America. At first we were going to do only Mad Cow Disease but than we found out we have to know more about cows to understand it. Many people in our technology class thought it was the most boring topic in the world. But, we didn't.
It took us a long time to finish our project. We thought we will never be done. Our coaches told us we can do it. First we had to learn how to use software. We used Cute Site Builder. It is easy to use. We were lucky that Robert already knew how to do it because he did Thinkquest last year when he was in different school. That gave us more time to do research and writing.
The hard part was the research. We had to know a lot. There is not that much for kids about the Mad Cow Disease! We hope this will help kids who need to write papers about it.
Members of the team did research and web design. We divided research topics, but if we found something good from somebody else's topic we gave it to them. We liked working as a team! Each member of the team also had parts that they liked the best and did the most. Shannon and Alec did a lot of writing, Robert did a lot of web design stuff, Drew and Borna did photos and Matt did interviews. He hardest part was putting it all together!
We wrote each other e-mails because we all have e-pals e-mails. We could send pictures and text and even the whole web page everywhere even across the ocean That's how we could get pictures from the butcher shop in Split, Croatia on the same site as the cow from Lakeland. Florida.
It was hard for us to find partner's from other countries. Our school was first time in Thinkquest and our teachers tried to get us partners. Maybe it is easier for older people to do it because they can use Internet when they want to. But, we are 9 and 10 years old and our parents are afraid of us talking to people that we don't know. Finally our coach found Borna because she knew someone from that country and they knew her so they were not afraid. So, that was difficult.Next year we hope to get Borna again and maybe some of his friends, now that his parents know us.
Our coaches helped a lot. They answer our e-mails, taught us how to use software and discussed our ideas with us. They kept us on task (or we would never finish).
. It was a lot of work but it was fun. We'll do it again next year.
Good luck to everyone!
