Integrase Inhibitors

After the reverse transcriptase enzyme changes HIV's genetic code RNA into DNA, the DNA gets integrated into the genetic code of the infected cell. Integrase inhibitors will target this point in the HIV life cycle to disrupt the replication of HIV viruses.

GW810781 by GlaxoSmithKline is currently in Phase II trials.

Zinc Finger Inhibitors

Zinc finger inhibitors(or zinc ejectors) prevents the virus from functioning by breaking apart the HIV's inner core, which is held together by structures called "zinc fingers". Scientists hope that zinc finger inhibitors will be effective for a long time since the HIV core is not believed to mutate very easily.

azodicarbonamide (ADA) has been tested in a Phase I/II trial.
