Mad cow disease is commonly transmitted through the consumption of
the infected meat. The disease is transmitted by a protein termed prion.
Prion may remain dormant for years before actively replicating itself.
Scientists have stated that prion may self-replicate. Because of such
unpredictable nature, it is difficult to detect the disease.
