- After July 1988, the United Kingdom prohibited the use of ruminant proteins
and bovine offals that may cause the disease.
- International community has banned beef imports from countries where the
disease occured.
- Continuous monitoring is required for nations before exporting their beef
products.

Currently there is no treatment for Creutzfeldt-Jackob disease. Patients
infected with the disease may not recover from the disease indefinately. Current
available treatments are used solely to alleivate pain and to make the patients
as comfortable as possible. Opiate, clonazepam, and sodium valporate are used
to stop involuntary muscle jerks and to sooth the patients.
