Cytotoxic T cell lysing

Figure: After encountering an antigen-presenting cell (APC), a cytotoxic T cell releases perforin to "attack" the target cell.

When perforin molecules attach to the surface of the target cells, it creates an ion channel in the target cell. Through this hole, water molecules and ions enter the APC, causing the cell to swell and later burst.
