The sun is the largest object in our solar system. It makes up 99.8% of our solar system’s total mass and Jupiter takes up almost all of the rest. There are many other stars that are similar to our Sun. The sun is named a “main sequence” star because of it’s similarity to many other stars. At the present state of the Sun, it is made up of 70% hydrogen, 28% helium and everything else amounts to less than 2%. Over time, the Sun converts hydrogen to helium in its core. The sun has a very strong magnetic field compared to the other planets in our solar system. The Sun is about 4.5 billion years old. In around 5 billion years the Sun will run out of hydrogen and eventually explode causing the ending of Earth as we know it.
