Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the eighth largest. Mankind has known Mercury for centuries. Mercury has one of the most eccentric orbits in our solar system. Mercury’s day is longer than its year, which is how long it takes to orbit the sun. Mercury is very similar to the Earth’s moon. Mercury has two very different types of terrain. Some regions have heavily cratered terrain, while others have relatively smooth plains. Mercury is a terrestrial planet. Mercury has a small magnetic field and when compared to Earth, it is only 1% as strong. Mercury has no satellites.
