The D&H
Canal of Rosendale
This is a
picture of the D&H canal in Rosendale in the 1800's. The D&H canal went
through Rosendale. The canal carried barges. The barges that were smaller carried
up to approximately 50 tons of coal. The bigger barges however could hold up to
150 tons of coal.
In Rosendale, the barges also picked up large amounts of
Rosendale Cement that was then sent to New York City. There were mules that
would pull the barges from the side of the canal on the towpath.
