DEATH
AND THE UNDERWORLD
In Greek, Egyptian, Japanese,
Native American, Hawaiian, Celtic and Aztec mythology, there are
all similar death gods. All of these death gods are kings of the
Underworld. In all of the different mythologies there is a strong
belief in the land that men travel to after death, or an underworld.
Often, these gods are wealthy, and may live in palaces or castles
in the underworld.
Also, these gods usually
judges the sins of the dead, and decides whether their afterlife
will be a happy one or not. Sometimes a death god will carry the
dead to the underworld. As you can see, there are many common
themes between death gods of different cultures.
