| Tornadoes are hazardous swirling
winds that can be extremely dangerous. It's formed by rotating, or
twisting air. A tornado could suck in almost anything. The normal speed
of a tornado is about 300 miles per hour, which makes it the most
dangerous storm known to mankind. In the Northern Hemisphere tornadoes
rotate counterclockwise, but in the Southern Hemisphere they rotate
clockwise. The average tornado ranges 200 to 300 yards across. Satellite tornadoes swirl violently around the main funnel, can cause terrible destruction, and are about 50 yards across. Tornadoes destroy half a billion dollars worth of land in the United States per year. The United States has more tornadoes than any country. The worst year was 1925, when 689 people died in the tornado that attacked Missouri, Ilinois, and Indiana. The best year was 1962, when only 28 people died, because of tornadoes. Even though tornadoes sometimes aren't very violent, most of the times they are, and cause great danger. That makes tornadoes by far natures most dangerous windstorm. |
