Hera was the
goddess
of marriage, and the wife of Zeus. Her Roman name was Juno.
She was pretty much evil (she literally kicked her son, Hephaestus, off of Mount Olympus because he was
crippled),
but she helped Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece.
Her favorite animal was the peacock. When Hermes killed Argus,
a one-hundred-eyed creature, Hera placed all of his eyes on the ends of
peacock
feathers.
Hera didn’t like Echo, a nymph,
very much, either. After all, it was Hera
who cursed Echo, giving her the “last
word.”
Hera could not contain her jealousy. Her
husband had many affairs with different women, and she killed them all.
She wasn’t a friend to Heracles, either. She even sent serpents to his cradle when he
was an infant! Although she wasn’t
the
nicest goddess, she was well respected.
