Chapter Five - Demeter

Demeter's Roman name was Ceres, and she was the goddess of agriculture, fertility, and grain.  She was also the mother of Persephone and the sister of Zeus.  When Persephone was captured by Hades, this goddess was heartbroken.  She wandered the earth looking for Persephone, and during that time the crops withered and it became perpetual winter.  She was obviously a much better mother than Hera, who kicked her son, Hephaestus, off of Mount Olympus just because he was lame.
