Chapter Fourteen
- Polyphemus
Polyphemus was a monster,
in fact he was a cyclops. His father talked him into capturing
Odysseus and torturing him until he was able
to digest him. He was supposed to capture Odysseus
upon his return from the Trojan War. He lured him and his men into
his lair and held him there for a few days until Odysseus devised a plan of escape. After all,
he was a general in the War. He started by sharpening a long pole. After
the pole was sharp, he heated it in the fire. He then snuck up on Polyphemus
when he was sleeping. He shoved the stick in his single eye with all
of his might. The newly blinded Polphemus did not see the captives
riding out on the backs of his goats when he let out the herd the next morning.
