Be sure to visit Doctor Over Time for a really cool interactive activity that lets you see how going to the doctor has changed from 1900 to 1950 to 1998.

There are two main types of doctors.

A physician, or you may know it as a doctor, is a person skilled in healing those who are ill, or injured with a physical or mental condition.

There are many different kinds of medical doctors. For example, a dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in in the skin. A pediatrician specializes in children's health. A cardiologist specializes in the heart and an ophthalmologist is a doctor that specializes in eyes.

You probably visit a physician at least once every two years for a check-up. Doctors determine if a person is well or not. They often work irregular hours. There are two main types of doctors. An M.D. is a doctor of medicine. A D.O. is a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine.

Throughout the healthcare workers section of this website, you will learn about different types of physicians.
