Are you ever afraid someone is going to knock at your door and say you have to go to war even though you’re only 6 years old? Well, some children do worry about that. Everyday children as young as six are loading guns. If you already know this and you want to know how to help, you are in the right place.

Save the Children was founded in 1932 as a nonprofit organization whose mission was to make an everlasting change in the lives of children in need. Today, Save the Children works in 19 states in the USA and in 47 countries to help improve health, education, and economic opportunities for children and their families. Save the Children also mobilizes quick life support assistance for families caught in tragedies of all sorts.

Here are some examples of ways in which Save the Children has provided help to different groups. Save the Children helps the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, USA where sadly, only 7% of the American Indian children go to college. There are also many children being forced out of their homes that Save the Children must help. There are at least 30 wars going on in the world at this very moment with millions of people being affected. You can help by donating money. Even if you only have one spare dollar, it could still make a difference. You may not think so, but you could actually make someone’s day with just one dollar! Every little bit helps.

Another one of Save the Children’s current projects is One World, One Wish. Save the Children wrote a report about themselves and Lesley Jane Seymour (Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire Magazine) read it.  After reading the report, she was motivated to help. In the end, Marie Claire and Save the Children united and named the campaign, “One World, One Wish.” It’s a national effort to raise public awareness of the needs of children and women affected by war and to raise money to meet their protection needs.

I think you’ve learned enough about Save the Children to realize it is a good cause and you should help. It feels good to help people, even if you don’t know whom you’re helping. Trust me, I know. Helping people really does bring a smile to your face. Go to www.savethechildren.org to find out where and what to do to help. You’ll feel great for doing it!
