CARE  improves children's health through:

Providing  educational opportunities in developing countries with a special focus on girls and women and helping parents cover the cost of keeping children in school

Water, sanitation and hygiene education projects

Farming changes that result in better nutrition

Family planning that promotes healthier mothers and infants

Emergency programs that meet basic needs for food and health

CARE is a worldwide organization whose mission is to help people and families in the poorest countries and communities in the world. CARE helps by trying to; strengthen capacity for self help, provide economic opportunities, deliver help in all sorts of emergencies, influence policy decisions at every level, and stop prejudice in every one of its forms. CARE believes the people they help deserve nothing less than the very best.

CARE was founded in 1945 and 22 organizations came to help CARE serve survivors of World War II. CARE has helped many people since its founding. In the 1950’s, CARE became national to help more people, mostly in the USA, to help feed the hungry. CARE used to stand for “Cooperative American Remittances to Europe.” Now it stands for “Cooperative Assistance and Relief Everywhere.”

In 1945, “CARE Packages” also started. People mailed special “CARE Packages” containing food, clothing, and blankets to war survivors. After awhile, “CARE Packages" started going all over the world to anyone needing them. Also, CARE started putting in things for special diets of different countries and other necessities.

Right now, CARE is working with over 60 countries around the world to find ways to stop poverty. CARE is working hard to help everyone enjoy the minimum standards of living in dignity, at the very least. CARE is succeeding, but isn’t done yet!
