The Beginning of the World
Inca Mythology
In the most ancient of times, the earth was covered in darkness. Then, out of Collasuyu, a lake, the god Con Tiqui Viracocha emerged, bringing humans with him. Then he created the sun which was called Inti and also created the moon and the stars. Together they would light the world. The emperor of Tahuantisuyo, known as the Inca, is descended from Inti. Con Tiqui then fashioned more human beings out of great rocks, including women who were already pregnant. Con Tiqui sent these newly made people off into every corner of the world. The only ones that stayed behind were one male and one female which he kept with him at the "navel of the world."
