Earthquake!

On October 17, 1989 the third game of the world series was about to begin. People throughout the country were watching TV when all of a sudden, the camera started to shake, someone yelled, "Earthquake!" and then the picture went dead. The "Loma Prieta" earthquake had hit the Bay Area, causing lots of damage and killing 62 people. What caused the earthquake? How do we know when another earthquake will happen? What can we do to be prepared?
