Stage in the Hero's Journey	Film Component
Ordinary World The hero's normal world before the story begins	This story is about family and belonging in a family. Stitch is Experiment 626. He has been made to destroy things. Lilo lives with her sister in Hawaii. Lilo is mean and doesn't get along with other kids.
Call to Adventure The hero is presented with a problem, challenge or adventure to undertake	The Queen says, "Show us something inside you that is good" but Stitch is bad. Stitch gets sent away. Cobra says he will take Lilo away from her sister, Nani, because she can't take care of her. Lilo wishes she would have a friend, send me an angel she says. Stitch crashes on earth.
Refusal of the Call The hero refuses the challenge or journey, usually out of fear	Not sure.
Meeting with the Mentor The hero meets a mentor to gain confidence, advice or training to face the adventure	Lilo adopts Stitch. She thinks Stitch is a dog. Lilo is Stitch's mentor and Stich is Lilo's mentor.
Crossing the First Threshold The hero crosses the gateway that separates the ordinary world from the special world	Stitch crashed on earth. The lady at the pet shop doesn't want Lilo to adopt Stitch.
Tests, Allies, Enemies The hero faces tests, meets allies, confronts enemies & learn the rules of the Special World.	Lilo helps Stitch act good. Stitch has to be a model citizen. He learns from Elvis. He dances, sings and gives a lady a flower. He wrecks everything. He learns Ohana means family no one gets left behind or forgotten. He finds the picture of Lilo's family and the picture of the duck.
Approach The hero has hit setbacks during tests & may need to reorganize his helpers or rekindle morale with mentor's rally cry. Stakes heightened.	Stitch has wrecked everything along the way. Lilo is going to be taken away by Cobra.
Ordeal The biggest life or death crisis – the hero faces his greatest fear & only through “death” can the hero be “reborn” experiencing even greater powers to see the journey to the end.	Stitch leaves with the duck book. He says, "I'm lost." Stitch finds out from Jumba that he has no family. Stitch is afraid about being alone. Cobra takes Lilo. Lilo runs away. Lilo finds out Stitch is a alien. She tells him to go away. This is where we saw there is an angel mark on the back of Stitch's head and an alien angel on his back. Stitch and Lilo get captured by Gantu. Stitch looks dead on the road.
Reward The hero has survived death, overcome his greatest fear and now earns the reward he sought.	Stitch wants to be in a family. He has to rescue Lilo.
The Road Back The hero must recommit to completing the journey & travel the road back to the Ordinary World. The dramatic question is asked again.	Stitch has to rescue Lilo from the spaceship.
Resurrection Hero faces most dangerous meeting with death – this shows the hero can apply all the wisdom he's brought back to the Ordinary World	Stitch tells the Queen about family. Lilo shows she owns Stitch. They get to be a family.
Return with Elixir The hero returns from the journey with the “elixir”, so everyone in the world can use to heal physical or emotional wounds.	Ohana means family - no one gets left behind The aliens help build a new house and they are friends.
