Outcome

For 16 long centuries, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus stood tall and proud until an earthquake caused some damage to the roof and colonnade. In the early fifteenth century AD, crusaders invaded the region and built a massive castle. In 1494, the crusaders decided to fortify the castle, and stones were taken from the Mausoleum to perform the task. By 1522, nearly all the stones that were used in the construction of the Mausoleum were disassembled and used for construction elsewhere.
