The Book of the Dead

The Book of the Dead, or the Egyptian Bible, is mostly made up of hymnals and praises to their gods and goddesses. It begins with a very long praise to their almighty god Ra. It then has a hymn of praise to the god of the dead Osiris. Next is a prayer said at funerals that are supposed to get a being into heaven. That is followed with more praise to Osiris the scribe. It is followed by a explanation of the weighing of the heart. It states that a heart must weigh less than the feather of truth. If it is more than the feather of truth than a demon goddess will devour the soul.

The Egyptians were very obsessive with death and the after life. That is followed by praise to the gods of day and night. Then comes a prayer that a priest says and is answered by someone else. Then is a list of the seven Arits. Then another prayer to be said at the gates of Osiris. Then a speech of the Priest. Then a section on the Judges of Anu. Then comes a prayer to be said over the deceased persons body. Then a prayer to Osiris. Then giving the heart to the god of the Dead: Osiris. Next comes praise to the Gods and Goddesses to help them get to heaven. Then they will say good things about the gods. This part was to get on the gods good side. Then comes a chapter of how they shouldn't let their souls go to Khert-Neter. Khert-Neter means the place of the fire gods. In other words that is somewhere that you don't want to go . Then is a chapter on how not to have your soul taken in Khert-Neter.Then follows many other things about Khert-Neter. Then is a way to become reincarnated (rebirthed) back to Earth. Next is about ten Chapters on reincarnation followed by how to transform into different birds, reptiles, and gods. Then on how to become invincible to death. It ends with two hyms.
