"The Month of the End of Autumn"
(Nov.21-Dec.20)

1 All Saints' Day. The day of hiring new servants and electing headboroughs. The sowing and all the other autumnal chores must be ready by this day..
We commemorate our dead ones. Graveyards are full of asters and chrisanthemums, with the flowers of passing away. Candles are burnt in the windows.

11 Martin
11 Martin They lighted the candles in shops.
"Martin's goose" is butchered on this day, the new wine is tasted, as its real judge is Martin himself.
They make marzipan, too, or rather the ancestor of this modern confection.
Freemen invited their lads for dinner, just as the landlords did with their shepherds.
Lots of weather-making customs are connected to this day. For example: "Martin sometimes rides a white horse" - that is, one have to be ready for snow; "if Martin's goose is standing on ice, it taps in mud by Christmas", or: "if Martin is good-humored, the winter will be rough."
19 Elizabeth
19 Elizabeth. If Betsy gives her pillow a good shake-up, it means snow.
25 Katherine
25 Katherine. The patron of girls and maidens. A large number of husband sortileges and auguries are connected to this day.
In weather, it is the opposite of Christmas: "if Katherine knocks, Christmas slops."
30 Andrew
30 Andrew. The day of celabrations for the winter quarter of the year. Advent starts at the first Sunday after the day of Andrew, from this Sunday on, no noisy or wedding ceremonies are held.
The largest number of husband auguries are in connection with the day of Andrew - furthermore, all the days that have custums for husband auguries are called "Andrewing days."
In some regions they butchered pigs around Andrew's day, because the weather is cold enough for the meat to remain edible for a long time.
