Droughts

A drought is a period of very dry weather that causes problems such as crop damage and water shortage because of the lack of water. The word "drought" can be used in several ways...

  • by weather people to describe a long spell with rain or snowfall seriously below average for the area.
  • by farmers to describe a situation when there is not enough water for their crops.
  • by scientists when above and below ground water supplies are below normal.
  • by sociologists when the shortage of water begins to affect the daily lives of people.
Droughts impact the economy, the environment, and lives of people.
