Conditions
Hurricanes require certain conditions to form themselves. These conditions include: warm ocean water, air which is both warm and humid, and weak upper level winds. These storms must somehow change the warm-humid air into energy. This is done by the warm tropical air rising further into the storm. It condenses into the nucleus of water and releases heat known as “latent heat.” The latent heat heats the air around it, then condenses. This process continues.
As the thunderstorms above build, a rotation at the surface begins. The rotation grows stronger as the thunderstorms begin to rotate around the center of the low pressure. High pressure aloft allows the storm to spread air, and is necessary in its formation. As soon as it has arranged itself properly, the prevailing trade winds carry the hurricane east.
