The legend of Paul Bunyan is one of the greatest legends in America. There are many many stories about Paul, a lumberjack. Paul was a giant who lived in the north woods of America. He did many miracles with his blue ox, Babe.
Paul Bunyan myths explain how the Grand Canyon, Puget Sound and other natural things were made by this giant lumberjack. In that way it is the same as some of the myths of the Cherokee Indians.
Paul is stronger and more powerful than normal people. He can do impossible things. Stories like this are often called "tall tales". People sat around and told stories and they made them very funny and impossible. The Paul Bunyan stories are an example of this kind of legend.
