Mount Pinatubo

Mount Pinatubo was a very destructive volcano that last erupted in 1991in the Philippines. The reason it was so destructive was that it erupted in the middle of a typhoon. The ash that was raining down on the many small towns surrounding Pinatubo mixed with the rain and started mud flows or lahars. Thanks to the great volcano forecasting, most of the people in the towns were evacuated. A US Air Force and a military base were located close by to the volcano. After the eruption, the Air Force Base and the military base were inflicted with so much damage that they didn't try to to rebuild the Air Force Base. The death toll from this eruption of Mount Pinatubo was thankfully held down under 500.
