| The Brain Cancer site
was developed by four students from
South Decatur
High School. South Decatur is a small rural school located in
Indiana. We are all enrolled in a Computer Programming class
which focuses on web page design. The team spent nine weeks of class
time developing the site under the direction of our coach,
Mrs. Fox. The web was
created using Microsoft Front Page, Java, and html code written using
notepad. The site was tested using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.
We also used Windows Movie Maker for editing digital video. The topic "Brain Cancer" was chosen because it had personal meaning to the team. Kylie, a fellow student, was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer found in the sinus cavity of the skull in 2000. Though not the exact disease studied for this site, the team thought it was close enough to home to pursue. The entire student body has witnessed medical technology through her treatment, struggle, and recovery. We are happy to report that Kylie is now doing remarkably well! Besides collaborating with Kylie, the team also included input from two foreign exchange students that are at our school this year. They assisted in translating non-English written web sites and offered their assistance in looking at alternative treatment options. We did not find, however, any critical discrepancies to report by country in our site. We hope you enjoy browsing the Brain Cancer site and find it educational. While creating the site we learned a lot about web page design and the field of science/health/medicine. |
