Reconstruction

Reconstruction was after the American Civil War. The people didn’t have any money and were in a mess.

In 1865, Congress established the Bureau of Refugees. It provided food, medical care, helped with resettlement, and established schools for those in need.

During the Reconstruction, blacks were also able to participate in the political conventions held in 1867 and 1868, blacks helped write new laws and codes. Some blacks were also elected into political office.

Reconstruction was a period of trouble and violence.
