Gettysburg

President Lincoln dedicated a cemetery at the battlefield of Gettysburg on November 19, 1863. The largest battle of the Civil War was at Gettysburg which is 50 miles northwest of Baltimore.

The Battle started on July 1, 1863 and was over two days later. It ended with the Union army winning and more than 15,000 soldiers missing, killed, or wounded. It was also the turning point of the war. It was the last effort Lee made to take the fighting into the northern states.

February 11, 1895 Gettysburg became the Gettysburg National Military Park. It was made a memorial for the armies that fought in the three day battle. Gettysburg National Military Park has over 6,000 acres and has many monuments, markers, and memorials.
