Since 1990 the United States has launched many space flights using space shuttles. In 1990, the United States launched Edwin Hubble, the space telescope into space. Also, spacecraft Magellan arrived on Venus. In 1991, the space shuttle Atlantis carried the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory into orbit.
In 1992, Endeavour lifted its first mission into space. Also, in 1992, Mars observer lifted off for the first mission in seventeen years. In 1993, Endeavour made the first in orbit service of the Hubble space telescope . In 1994 Ulysses reached maximum latitude 80.2 degrees at the sun.
In 1995, we discovered that maneuver was 37 feet from Russians space station. It was the first shuttle mission flown by a woman. Also, in 1995 Galileo spacecraft arrived at Jupiter. In 1996 the space shuttle Columbia lifted off on its 21 st space flight. Its trip made the record of the oldest man into space. He was 61 years old.
1997 was the year that the United States launched the most missions. In 1997, the space shuttle Columbia lifted off for the shortest mission in 12 years. It lasted for four days. In 1998, a man by the name of John Glenn, at the age of 77, went into space.
In 1999 was the first time that the United States left the station with out any information to come back home with. Also, in this year Columbia carried Chandra x-ray observatory into orbit. In 2000, the Galileo returned home safely. They brought an asteroid shaped like a potato. The first mission of International Space Station went into space. In 2001, there were a total of six space shuttle missions. Many of these missions ferried people and supplies to the International Space Station. Nine of these people had never been into space before. The first mission in the year 2002 was to service the Hubble Telescope. Four more missions were completed using the space shuttle. The year 2003 brought us great tragedy with the loss of the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia. Manned space travel has been brought to a stand still, while NASA investigates and looks for ways that we can improve the safety of the space shuttles. Unmanned missions have continued. It was with great excitement that we watched the Mars rovers land on Mars.
