This book is about a boy, his dog, his grandfather, and a race to save his property. Willy's grandfather hasn't payed his taxes on the property since Willy was born. One morning Willy woke up to find his grandfather still lying in bed. Willy knew something was wrong. With his grandfather ill, and about to lose his property Willy tries to find a way to help. He enters a dog sled race with the prize of $500.00.
I thought this book was a great book. It was also a really sad book. I loved how Willy would do anything to help his grandfather. He showed real love for his grandfather. Willy is a strong and kind hearted person.

The Call of the Wild
By: Jack London
There's a dog named Buck that gets sold to a very mean guy, because his owner gambled and needed money. The dog was beaten by this guy. He would tie a rope around his neck and pull it so he could hardly breath. The dog referred to this man and the red shirt guy. Then Buck gets sold again to nicer people. However, these people are harder working people. Their job is to travel all over the U.S. to different cities. Buck becomes very sore. Buck doesn't want to move so his owner beats him, but the dog would still not go, he sensed danger ahead. The man owned the camp ground where they were at said that if he hit the dog again he would report him to animal control. The guy that saved Buck from a horrible beating told the other people that they should lighten the load if they were going to cross the ice. The people didn't take the man's advice. Right when the people were heading over the ice Buck looked up and the people fell through.
I didn't like this book very much, it was hard to understand. Some parts I don't think were explained very good. It really confused me.
