Venus is the sixth largest planet and the second from the sun. Venus is named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty. It is very similar to Earth.  They are both close to the same mass, size, density, and volume.

The temperature on the surface of Venus is 900 degrees Fahrenheit.  This is caused by the composition of the atmosphere.  It is composed mostly of carbon dioxide. Heat from the sun is trapped by its dense atmosphere. This makes Venus hotter than Mercury, even though it is twice as far from the Sun.

Venus is covered with many impact craters.  Many volcanoes are found around the planet as well.  This creates lava flows.
