Earth is the third planet from the sun. It appears blue and white from
space. It is the only planet where life exists. It is the only planet that
has water. It is known as a rocky planet as well.
Earth’s Features
Earth's surface is different from other planets’
because of the great amount of water on it. Water is one of earth’s features
found in oceans, lakes, rivers, and ponds.
Some of Earth's other features are mountains,
valleys, canyons, hills, and volcanoes. Many of the features are formed as
a result of large pieces of the Earth’s outer
layer shifting and moving slowly where the plates meet.
Earth’s Interior
The
interior of Earth has four layers. Each layer is special because it's made
of different materials. The four layers are the crust, mantle, outer core,
and inner core. The crust is the outermost layer. It is made up of a
rocky material and soil. The mantle is under the crust. It is mostly
solid rock. It outer core is a liquid core of iron and nickel. The
inner core is a solid core made of iron and nickel.
Earth’s atmosphere
Earth’s atmosphere surrounds the planet and protects it from dangerous rays of
the sun. It is made up of a mixture of many different gases that gradually get
thinner and thinner until it gets to outer space. These gases are 78% nitrogen,
21% oxygen, and 1% other gases.
