Thoth was the god of writing, knowledge, wisdom, and master of magic. He was associated with the moon, and is said to have given the Egyptians the gift of hieroglyphic writing. He was often depicted as a man with an ibis head. He has also been shown as a baboon, or as a man holding a writing palette or the head of an ibis. A nickname for him was The Great Measurer. |
