By  Jami

Why We Have Avalanches

By  Tyler

Do you know why we have avalanches?  There are little elves who live five feet under the snow in winter time.  One day, there was a kid walking on the mountain, and he tripped on a log.  It hurt so bad he was yelling at the top of his lungs!  The little elves were all sleeping, and he woke them up.  They were so scared, they jumped up and that's why we have avalanches!

Why Monkeys Say the Things They Do

By Cecilia

Long ago in the Amazon jungle, monkeys were very talkative.  Yes, talkative.  All monkeys actually spoke with words.  Well, they did until one day…  The god of the jungle got very annoyed with the talking.  Nieka (the god) forbid the monkeys the talk with words.  For many years after the law was made, monkeys did not talk. One day, they were watching each other jump around.  One monkey saw an amazing jump.  He said, “OOOHHH!!” After that, every day when the monkeys watch each other jump around they all say, ”OOOHHH-AAAHHH!!” and that’s why monkeys say the things they do.

Why People Have Different Names

By  Jasmine

There once was a family who had a very special daughter.  She was special because everyone else around her looked the same, acted the same and did everything the same.  It was sort of a tradition with her people, but they didn't realize it.  Everyone even had the same first, middle and last names!  People were so used to it that they didn't e even think about it anymore, until SHE was born.  When her family brought her home and showed her to the townspeople, they finally realized that everything was the same.  The family knew they couldn't give her the same name as everyone else, so they gave her a DIFFERENT name.  Eventually the people started thinking of different names for themselves, and that's why people have different names today.

Why There Is Grass

There is grass for one reason and one reason only, and here it is.  One day Grass, the horse, was running around when his left hoof got a rock stuck in it.  The land back then was all gravel and desert.  So, he went to Mother Nature and asked if there could be places on the Earth with soft stuff covering some spots.  Mother Nature granted Grass' wish and named the soft areas after him.  That's why we have grass today.
